The Quantum Flux RX is it a bargain rally car or a Traxxas Wannabe?
Once in a while a Bargain car appears and the Quantum Flux RX is one of them. This 1/8th Scale Rally car appears to be an ultimate bargain with its £224.00 Price Tag RTR. The 1/8th Rally cars on the market are often double the price of this Bargain Beast.
What do we Know?
We know it is cheap which, is a big plus. When you take the Maverick Quantum FLux RX out of the packaging it is a bit of a shock just how big it is. This 1/8th Scale car is very imposing with a great colour scheme, ours is the Yellow/Green livery but the car is also available in blue. In the box, you get the car and the controller. As the car is 2s-4s compatible HPI lets you choose the battery you want which will be an extra £20 – £80 depending on what you choose.
Check out the ZEE Battery store on Amazon we have been using these batteries for around 10 years and they are a great price compared to other brands of similar quality. make sure you get a hard case battery for extra protection.
The transmitter is very good quality and suits all hand sizes. The Maverick handset is reliable and operates at a good 100m range. You will need 4 AA batteries for this controller. You will also need to get a decent charger unless you already own one. We normally recommend the SKY RC T100 which is a dual channel 100w charger capable of 2-4s up to 5000mah.
Under the hood of the Quantum Flux RX
Removing the body of the Quantum Flux RX it becomes apparent that you are looking at quite a special RC Car. There is a lot of good quality Plastic and you can feel how robust it is. The vehicle is a shaft-driven 4×4 1/8th Rally car with aluminium drive shafts connecting the front, rear, and central differential. The receiver is enclosed for protection from the elements making this a splash-proof vehicle that can operate in the wet.
The front steering servo is metal geared and pretty quick. Maverick has set this up with a great Flux waterproof 120a ESC and 2250kv Flux Brushless motor which packs a punch. We recorded the speed at 29mph on a 2-s battery and a whopping 45mph on a 4s battery in standard configuration.
Keeping Control
The Quantum Flux RX is great on the track. Oil-filled independent suspension and Grippy rally-style medium compound tires keep it handling like it is on rails. Because the Quantum has a central differential, the power is distributed evenly to both rear and front wheels which plants the vehicle well on the road. With a 2s battery, the Quantun eats the track and is so easy to drive. Add the 4s battery and it becomes a beast around the track, you will need higher skills to master the power on track but you will do it.
Strength and power
With great power comes great responsibility (Apparently) with this amazing hobby comes a lot of crashes. The whole point of these cars is to go as fast as we can around a track or across a field. The Quantum flux has the power to do this and I can say from personal experience that it crashes well. We flipped and crashed this on many occasions and it took the bashing in its stride. The worst thing that happened to us was the grub screws in the drive shaft came loose and we lost drive. This was a 2-minute fix. This car is strong.
In conclusion
The Quantum Flux RX ticks all the Boxes it needs. It is fast, Stylish, Strong, Big, Drivable, and very cheap for a vehicle of this type. If you are looking for a 1/8th Rally car then this could be the one for you. HPI Models are very good quality in general and they seem to pack a lot of spec into a lower price bracket.
