What can we say about the Kyosho Fazer MK2?
The Kyosho Fazer Mk2 1/10 50 Years Legend of SPA 1/10 scale touring car is a very pretty piece of kit. We first saw this model out of the box at Rochester RC it was sitting on top of the display unit in pride of place. It’s deep red paintwork and special livery caught our eye.
Recently Rochester RC opened its new indoor raceway and, we were looking for a vehicle that would be specifically for running indoors on this kind of track. The Kyosho Fazer seemed to offer everything we needed for a base entry Touring Car for Racing.
Specification of the Kyosho Fazer MK2
Removing the top from the Fazer MK2 reveals some good quality technology, which you would come to expect from a premium brand like Kyosho. The Plastic feels robust and, it is all put together in a nice compact design. The chassis is permanent shaft driven 4wd, which will keep the car planted in the tight corners of the raceway. Provision has been made to keep everything dry and clean. The waterproof servo is boxed away for protection, and the sealed differentials and transmission make sure that everything stays true even when used outside.
The completely new chassis has a low centre of gravity with its simple, functional design. Featuring an integrated gearbox that optimizes the torsional rigidity of the main chassis, the nylon material reduces weight while improving impact resistance. Each key component has been reinforced in this simple design without needing an upper deck.
Kyosho has developed some new oil-filled shocks for this particular model which claims to be a massive step up from earlier models and I must admit the handling is pretty good.
The Kyosho Fazer MK2 is fully Ball-raced throughout, ensuring a smooth run, and it also comes with different mock wheel discs which provide provision for different body widths.
Electronics of the Kyosho Fazer MK2
We start our list of electronics with the 60 amp KA060-91W ESC with deans connector, which is capable of running either Nimh or Lipo 2s Battery. We opted for Lipo to give it some extra punch.
Initially, I was a little disappointed to find out that the motor is a brushed 550 but, I was soon reassured when we connected the battery pack and gave it a blast. The 14T supplied with this vehicle is a little bit special. It is seriously fast for a 540 brushed motor and on the track is faster than our TT02 with a 2500kv brushless system.
The Kyosho Fazer MK2 has been geared for speed and the standard spur and pinion gear settings are 68T and 32T, but 9 pinion gear settings can be used from 29T – 37T to produce a wide range of gear ratio settings. The new fixed gear mesh motor mount has holes for use with each different pinion gear. Just simply mount the motor directly to the hole locations corresponding to the pinion gear. No gear mesh adjustment is necessary.
The Kyosho Fazer comes standard with a pretty good radio system, the Syncro KT-2319+ feels great in the hand and all the triggers and levers feel very smooth and light. This transmitter allows throttle trim and steering trim. Throttle EPA and steering dual rate can be set with a simple turn of a dial.
In Conclusion
