RC ERA Bell 206 Scale Helicopter
Fatboys RC was approached by RTR hobbies regarding their RC ERA Bell 206 RC Helicopter. They wanted to know if we would be interested in doing a review on this particular Helicopter. We are always happy to help as we love to see everything from the world of RC.
I must admit that I was a little sceptical of a 1/33th scaled Helicopter as I have had many small scale aircraft over the years and they have all been a little disappointing.
The RC ERA Bell 206 is a different story

We received the RC ERA bell 206 and opened the packaging to find the basic kit which consisted of the Helicopter a Transmitter a Battery, some spare rotors and a charging cable. The Helicopter was protected well within the box and everything arrived in one piece.
Initial thoughts on the RC ERA Bell 206
The helicopter is quite small but it is heavy for its size. It is not just an empty case with some electronics. You can tell that there is some quality in the build and materials used. We received the Red fire helicopter livery but, we know it is also available in the blue police livery. The transmitter was light and basic but it also had good response in the joysticks and there were some good features. The Transmitter feels fit for purpose and comfortable in hand.

Reading through the spec sheets of the RC ERA Bell 206 it was great to see some of the technology included. I loved the One-touch take-off and landing function. The helicopter has a built-in 6-axis gyro which will improve the flight control of this vehicle. The Gyro helps the helicopter bank and angle and differentiates this model from the toys of this level. The RC ERA Bell 206 is closer to hobby grade and a much better introduction to RC Helicopters.
This particular model did not have the optical flow sensor which would regulate altitude by using a sensor to determine the distance from the floor although, there is an upgraded version that does.
This particular model uses the barometric air pressure sensor to determine altitude and this feature also helps stabilise the helicopter in flight.
Getting ready to fly
It was easy to get the RC ERA Bell 206 ready for flight as it was just a matter of charging the battery and putting four AA Batteries in the controller. I must admit that I would invest in 2 more batteries as each battery only lasts 10 minutes. The batteries are only around £12 which makes this a cheap upgrade and will allow constant flying as we can keep cycling through the day.
Flying the RC ERA Bell 206
This was a brilliant experience. I used the One Touch take off and it worked perfectly. I was amazed how such a cheap model could fly so well. The Helicopter is very stable in the air and the controller is very responsive. I did manage to fly into a tree which showed the benefit of the automatic cut-off feature. If the blades collide with an obstruction they automatically shut off to prevent damage. I crashed 3 times in 10 minutes and there is no damage to the helicopter.
I enjoyed flying this model and flew it quite high to an altitude of around 20 metres and it coped very well. Wind could be an issue as the helicopter is designed for low-level flight on fine days. We did take it out on a breezy day and put it through its paces. Even in poor conditions, the little helicopter worked well.
It is difficult to fly a 100g helicopter into a breeze and if you watch the video which will be on my YouTube channel soon, you will see how well it handled the pressure.
I would say this little Helicopter is an excellent introduction to RC Flying.
In conclusion
The RC ERA Bell 206 Helicopter is a great option for a beginner helicopter which gives a very realistic introduction to the world of RC Flying. The build quality is great and this little chopper can take punishment. The built-in technological features set it apart from other choppers in this price brand and it flies amazingly well. I am enjoying using and owning this helicopter and I very much look forward to reviewing products from this brand.
It shows that not every model Helicopter needs to cost the Earth.
